#NoTrainingTodayNoSurgeonsTomorrow as publicised by the JCST made this #TheCoronaCast episode important to address as orthopaedic elective activity begins to slowly resume around the UK. With most orthopaedic trainees having lost significant experience and opportunities over the coronavirus pandemic due to either being redeployed or seeing a change in their departments workload, Paedipods host Mr Pranai Buddhdev, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon talks to Ms Lisa Hadfield-Law, a central figurehead in delivering surgical education appropriately in the UK and abroad. Having trained more than 15,000 surgeons in 68 countries, Lisa serves as an advisor for the BOA, Royal College of Surgeons and AO UK, hosting numerous faculty development courses including Training orthopaedic trainees & Training orthopaedic educationalist, supervisors. We talk about how to maximise the opportunities to gain the necessary experience in the 'new normal' setting including theatre lists, virtual clinics and ward rounds, what makes a good surgical trainer, how novel platforms including virtual teaching, podcasts and webinars can be more widely adopted, and how to motivate and engage with junior staff including foundation doctors and core surgical trainees.
