Welcome back to #ThePaedipodsCast. We dedicate this episode to our colleague, Dr Lucas Murnaghan who recently passed following a short illness. He was a committed and excellent surgeon, with specialist training undertaken in Canada, Australia and USA. He is extremely well known for his love of diving, surfing and photography, and surely must be the most followed paedipod online with nearly 180k followers! He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
His TED talk, which ends with "In the end, the only story you will tell is your own" can be found at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ND5RzhlPDjw
In this episode, recorded in February 2020 in Toronto, I sat with Dr Andrew Howard who is a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon with an interest in rare diseases/skeletal dysplasias, injury prevention research and global health. He has a masters in epidemiology, and we talk all about the importance of addressing the prevention of injuries, with trauma being the no.1 cause for children globally. We also talk about the role of global surgery, the Bethune round table and his thoughts on how to develop and lead a world-renowned department in his role at SickKids.
