Pete is a consultant orthopaedic trauma surgeon at the Royal London Hospital.  He considers himself to be a trauma guy, with a particular interest in pelvic and acetabular trauma.

Pete is the Clinical Lead for Orthopaedics and Head of Orthopaedic Trauma. Pete’s subspecialty interest is in polytrauma and the treatment of pelvic and acetabular fractures. Pete is a senior clinical lecturer at Queen Mary University of London and lead faculty for the ‘Orthopaedic Trauma Sciences’ MSc,  Pete is also faculty on the internationally renowned ‘Trauma Sciences MSc’, providing online, distance learning to budding trauma specialists.

Pete is leading the way in making the Royal London Hospital a source of prolific orthopaedic trauma research and academic learning.

He is also a medico-legal medical expert, specialising in those who have sustained high energy trauma and of providing reports in cases of post-traumatic injury.

Pete trained around North East London with his higher surgical training at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. He later participated in 2.5 years of internationally recognised trauma fellowships in Christchurch (NZ), Nottingham (UK) and Dallas (Tx, USA).

Pete Bates was awarded the prestigious national 2014 British Orthopaedic Trainee Association (BOTA) Trainer of The Year Award from among 22 nominations across the United Kingdom for his commitment, enthusiasm and passion to teaching trainee orthopaedic surgeons.
