Ran is currently an ST8 on the South-West London training rotation. He graduated from the University of Manchester in 2010 and moved to North-West London to complete his foundation years training. His core surgical training took him to the West Midlands, where his passion for T&O surgery grew. He returned to London in 2014 to commence his specialty training in T&O surgery.
As Ran progressed through his specialty training, he recognised a need to strengthen the representation of trainees within his training region. He took on the position of BOTA Regional Representative for South-West London in 2018 and was elected SAC Representative for BOTA later that year. His time on the BOTA national Committee opened his eyes to the pivotal and innovative work undertaken by the Committee. In 2019, Ran took up the position of BOTA Vice President to help improve T&O training and instigate positive changes in culture, diversity and inclusion within T&O surgery. Towards the end of his tenure as Vice President, Ran was given the opportunity to act as President. Since July 2020, he has led the BOTA Committee to deliver the agenda of the Committee in the interest of T&O trainees throughout the UK. In November 2020, Ran was formally voted in as President of BOTA.
As President, Ran sits on a number of important Committees – including RCS(Eng) Council, RCS(Eng) L&A, BOA Council, BOA EdCar, IST Assurance Board, T&O SDG and ATDG. He is dedicated to ensuring that he, and the BOTA Committee, remains focused on driving forward the agenda of excellence in training.
