Heather A. Vallier, MD has been named the 36th President of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) and the first ever female President. She is currently a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Case Western Reserve University.
She was recruited to the Orthopaedic Trauma Service at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland in 2001 and in 2007 she was awarded the inaugural C. L. Nash M.D. Professorship in Orthopaedic Education.
Dr. Vallier has served for several years within the OTA, on the Board of Directors and as the inaugural Chair of the Publications Committee. She is a Deputy Editor for the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma. She also enjoys mentoring and advising students and residents and served as the Director of Education in Orthopaedic Surgery at MetroHealth from 2002-2009 and 2012-2015. In 2013 she founded the Trauma Recovery Services program at MetroHealth and has served as the Medical Director of the program since that time.
The OTA Board of Directors also welcomed two new members at the 2020 October Business Meeting: Brendan M. Patterson, MD is the 2nd President-Elect and has been a member of OTA since 1993. Anna N. Miller, MD is the newest Member at Large. She has been an active member of the OTA since 2007.
The OTA is a professional membership organization of over 2,700 orthopaedic trauma surgeons and healthcare providers. The mission of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) is to promote excellence in care for the injured patient, through provision of scientific forums and support of musculoskeletal research and education of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the public.
